An important part of a towing system is installation of all components at the same time
A base plate install requires removal of the front fascia of the vehicle in almost every case. When the front fascia is removed, the tail light wiring harness, optional battery charge wiring, optional air brake air line, and optional brake system breakaway switch should be installed. These items simply cannot be installed as easily or properly with the fascia in place.
Every vehicle is unique in what is needed for towing.
As an example: There are a variety of supplemental braking systems available. Some are air activated, some use inertia sensors, some push the brake pedal, some pull the brake pedal, some are large, some are small, some require an involved installation, some require removal and installation each time they’re used, and prices vary.
